Different Types of Mountain Bikes

Mountain biking is an extremely popular sport these days. However, there are numerous bicycles to select from. What type of bike you are going to buy depends on what type of riding you prefer.

Here are four different types of bicycles available:

1. Cross country

This category includes almost all mountain bikes. Cross-country models are easy to ride over most terrains, including up and down hills. You can use it without difficulty for riding on the path or commuting. All this is possible because they are lightweight. This is also the main reason why cross-country bikes are the most common mountain bicycles.

2. Downhill

If you are a serious biker who long for the ultimate adventure, this type of bike is your best choice. They come with front and rear suspension, disc brakes and very strong parts. They are not often available off the shelf. In most cases, riders custom build their own.

3. Trials

You need a great degree of skill for trail mountain biking because this is the precision riding of the sport. They are also rarely bought off a shelf. Trial riders want to build their own bikes. They are very light and extremely strong. Just keep in mind that these bicycles involve a lot of discipline.

4. Jump and slalom

When people talk about the sport of mountain biking, these bikes are often mentioned. Jump and slalom bikes are incredibly strong because they are designed for demanding activities such as jumping, slalom and street racing. They all come with exceptionally strong components and a front suspension.

Here you have four main types of mountain bikes. Which one you will choose, depends on your style. If you are not sure what type to purchase, try out a few of them and find out which one fits you the best.

The History of Mountain Bikes

We everybody know that mountain biking is such a wonderful sportive event and we enjoy a lot when this type of sportive event takes place in public. However, you can also fulfill your long lasting wish and dream by riding the motor bike to the deep terrain where you will have to cross the hilly region and uneven surface. If you look back you will see that in past there were many experiments on this mountain biking in different times.

As per the historical record and evidence, Buffalo Soldiers, a well known regiment in the army did lot of practice and research on the old fashioned mountain bikes to drag the luggage and ammunition to the top of hill for the preservation. Their only aim was to make the proper utilization of the bikes in the deep un-motorcade terrain for challenging the opponents at the battle field. It was completely under the experiment by the soldiers who practiced in the terrain riding the bike. It dated back in 1896 that the military personnel were trained to ride the bike to accept the challenge of the enemies in the trail and mountain regions.

Other experts have stated that maybe Velo Cross Club of France started the mountain biking on experiment. This club was crowded by a team of 20 young and energetic bikers who spent lot of effort of time to get the mastery over this type of dangerous sporting event. In this connection you can remember the name of John Finley Scott who is considered to be the first mountain biker in America. He was the famous biker who also invented the Woodsie Bike which was designed with diamond studded frame plus sophisticated balloon tires. This bike was also equipped with flattened handle bars and cantilever braking accessories.

Since then lot of scientific experiment and study have been done to increase the working competency of the bike to cover the extensive area of the hilly region comfortably. In Northern California this type of mountain bike is very popular. However in the modern age, there has been massive breakthrough in the design and pattern of the mountain bike and other vehicles. Riders enjoy the cross country, downhill riding and lot of different styles riding the mountain bikes. You can be also a lucky person if you practice a lot to make yourself competent to ride the mountain bike to make the wonderful adventurous journey to this hilly region.
