Choosing the Right Bicycle For Your Needs
It can be exciting when you finally decide to buy a bike, but the amount of choices can be overwhelming. By understanding what your needs are for a bike, you can then decide which of the various styles is appropriate for you. If you will primarily be riding to work or around the neighborhood, a commuter bike is a good choice. Usually these are built like a road bike but with fatter tires and maybe even rain guards for when you need to ride in the rain. They often have a platform or basket on the back to hold your work bag. If you are aiming to speed, a road bike or racing bike is probably the right choice. A good road bike will have a lightweight frame and skinny lightweight tires as well.
A mountain bike is good for when you need to ride off road on sand, gravel or dirt. They often have a heavier and more sturdy frame. They may also have shock absorbers in the front and even rear area of the bike to cushion your ride when going over obstacles and rocks. If this does not help you choose, it’s worth asking a more experienced friend or even talking with a salesperson at a bike store. They can help understand your needs and suggest what they have that meets those needs. They of course will prefer that you bike your bike in their store. This has a lot of advantages like getting it fitted to you and discounts on future maintenance, but in general it will be cheaper to buy a bike online from a discount store.
